Process Foaming and Mitigation
|
Facts: 1. All amine plants eventually foam. 2. Operators operate the plant. 3. Tech support
engineering supports operations, making sure the plant hardware is functioning properly.
Who addresses foaming problems? It normally falls to operations support engineering to follow up on foaming
issues. Solution foaming is even more mysterious and frustrating than activated carbon or mechanical filtration
when it comes to real questions; and worse, real answers. What does one do after reviewing the operating
data and shift logs? Call the solvent vendor; the carbon vendor, filter vendor? NO! Call D-Foam. It's our
business to help you address your foaming problems. If you let us, we will give you concrete reasons to call the
vendors, or even better, reasons why you don't need to bother them!
Process Troubleshooting - How do your operators respond to foaming symptoms? Unfortunately, it varies
from operator to operator, and shift to shift. More plants than don't use the "folklore" training method for plant
foaming responses. You know, the one that's handed down from generation to generation. Amine plant
support engineers are in similar situations when trying to follow up on foaming issues. How can they do
anything about something nobody knows anything about? D-Foam knows about amine plant foaming. That's
what we do everyday, in every kind of plant! We can help with past, present, and preparation for future
foaming problems.
On Site Lab Services - We will bring our equipment to your site and perform lab tests on site. We'll also take
a look at what your folks are doing. We'd love to discuss the differences, and there will be differences! We
may have a suggestion or two; all based on published research of course.
Operations Surveys & Training - We have interviewed hundreds of operators who talked about what they do
when their plants show signs of foaming. When we meet with the whole shift, there are always one or two who
do something different that the rest. Amine plant foaming is so frequent and common that it seems ridiculous
not to have an ongoing operator group discussion purely concerning foaming. Guess what? Most plants skip
right over it! We would love to show you how it's done, and discuss the benefits of consistent operator
response to such a common problem.
Treating Examination/Prequalification - Is your solution a candidate for foaming abatement treating, or do
you need to concentrate your troubleshooting efforts on mechanical issues? Our solution based treating model
can definitely help save time and money.
Antifoam Examination/Prequalification - Is you antifoam working? Is it being under dosed, or possibly
overdosed? Did you know that overdosing silicone antifoam can cause it to inactivate? Are your mechanical
filters or activated carbon removing it? We don't just find out, we will take pictures and show you!
Hydrocarbon removal - Is the hydrocarbon hurting or......possibly helping your operation? Did you know that
removing it can sometimes cause more problems than leaving it in? Solution foaming tendency can actually
increase after hydrocarbon is removed! We tell you if you are at risk.
Mechanical Filtration - Forget ratings; how well are your filters really working? Filter performance is dictated
by the contaminant in your solution, and how filters are applied. Filter change outs have increased from 4
weeks to 4 days. What happened? Where do you start trying to figure it out? Call D-Foam. Let us to tell you
what your filters are removing, and why they are plugging faster.
Interested in any one of the topics listed above? Great! The good news is that when you call us for help we
will consider all of the topics above, and more when defining your problem and recommending solutions.

Solution D-Foaming Service

We won't just come out, hook up, and treat without finding out if SigmaPure will solve the problem.
SigmaPure System Prequalification - Give us 1 liter of your solution taken when the symptoms are at their
worst (just before injecting antifoam), and we'll tell you if our rig will help. This step only takes a few minutes
once we get the sample. (see Lab Testing tab)
Solution D-Foaming - Once prequalified, installation is as easy as it gets. Our rig is portable, and requires
only minimal utilities to get up and running. (see SigmaPure tab) The SigmaPure System removes the foaming
contaminants as your plant is operating, so our operation is essentially invisible. Our system is designed to
remove only those solution contaminants that cause foaming so waste volume is minimized, and valuable
solution components are unaffected.
